This year’s Film Keynote is world renowned Academy Award nominated Director Lee Daniels. Daniels is widely recognized for his highly praised and controversial work, “Precious: Based On The Novel By Sapphire.” The film was the recipient of several Academy Awards. It was nominated for “Best Motion Picture of the Year.” Among Daniel’s other reputable productions is the Golden Globe winning series “Empire”, and the critically acclaimed box office success, “The Butler.” “We are particularly excited about Lee Daniels as Film Keynote for his unparalleled talent, passion, continued experimentation, and career evolution. With speakers hailing from the tech, music, film, television, business, and journalism, this year’s selection reflects the cross collaboration that SXSW is famed for. The event continues to honor its tradition of bringing in luminaries and emergent talents working across industry platforms. Featured Speakers include Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Kate Crawford, Bill Ford & Doug Newcomb, Parag Khanna, Kimbal Musk, Peggy Orenstein, Randall Poster, Vivek Ranadivé and Rachael Ray. Furthermore, in addition to announcement of the Featured Speakers, SXSW has revealed that this year’s featured session will be “Product Mavericks: Top Tips From Women Who Build.” The presentation will be given by Merci Grace, who leads the Growth team at Slack; Stephanie Hannon, Chief Technology Officer, Hillary for America; Tali Rapaport, Lyft VP of Product; and Fidji Simo, Director of Product at Facebook. “The SXSW Conference is designed to give creatives the tools they need to achieve their goals, and what better way than bringing together a diverse slate of today’s influencers and making them available to all badge types, fueling the cross-industry creative combustion we’re known for,” said Pierson.
