Oliver Heldens‘ rise to superstardom was nothing short of meteoric. The Dutch prodigy was signed to one of dance music’s biggest and most iconic labels, Spinnin’ Records, at the age of 17, and in the four years since then, Heldens has gone on to achieve more success than many artists hope to achieve in their entire lifetimes. The dance music wunderkind just recently turned 21, and he’s already garnered a nearly unprecedented 5 Beatport #1 releases, in addition to holding down the main stage at festivals all around the world. Heldens has delivered stand-out collaborations with the likes of Sander van Doorn, Zeds Dead, and Tiesto, and now, Heldens proving to the world that the sky is the limit for the exceptionally talented youngster.

Now, as Heldens prepares to embark on a massive North American bus tour, we’re not only looking back at his tremendous rise to stardom, but also at the spectacular pace at which he achieved by shining a spotlight on 5 notable moments in Oliver Heldens’ career.

1. “Gecko (Overdrive)”
“Gecko” surfaced as an ID from Tiesto’s Musical Freedom imprint in late 2013, and it was a resounding success. The groovy 4/4 backbone paired together with Heldens’ signature basslines and big room appeal made it the perfect offering for those looking to explore deeper realms of house music while still keeping a foot in the mainstream. “Gecko (Overdrive)” climbed its way to the #1 spot on the UK Dance and Singles charts, beginning the future house movement in dance music and solidifying Oliver Heldens as a star.

2. Oliver Heldens’ Essential Mix Debut

BBC Radio1’s Essential Mix is one of the most esteemed radio shows in dance music. An invitation to play an Essential Mix is nothing to take lightly, and it often marks an artist’s crossover into stardom. Heldens took over the Essential Mix in December of 2014, when he was still considered a rising star in dance music, and absolutely crushed it.

3. Tomorrowland and Coachella Debuts

Heldens made his Tomorrowland debut in 2014, crushing the main stage, and he followed that up with a primetime slot in the Sahara Tent at Coachella, one of America’s most-buzzed-about music festivals. While Heldens had the music to back up his status as a superstar, his sets at Tomorrowland and Coachella showed the world that future house was here to stay, and no one does future house quite like Oliver Heldens.

4. Heldeep Records

In 2015, there was no denying that Heldens was an international superstar. With a number of tours, awards, and releases under his belt, it was time for Heldens to take the next step as an artist – start his own record label. Heldeep Records serves as a channel for Oliver to showcase his tastemaking ability, and something that the Dutch star can look at and be proud of.

5. HI-LO
In addition to launching Heldeep Records last year, Heldens introduced us to his new bass-house side project, HI-LO, whose track, “Renegade Mastah” was the inaugural release on Heldeep Records. HI-LO has given Heldens a channel to experiment with his music in ways that his Oliver Heldens moniker hasn’t been able to, and we can’t wait to see what’s next from the star.
