Hot off the success of Yours, Dreamily, The Arcs have managed to mystify us all again with the release of The Inventors Vol. 1 EP.  Mixing things up a little, The Arcs decided to bring in legends like Dr. John for piano, David Hidalgo on the guitar, and many others to feature in a few of the tracks. Keeping true to their sound that wowed the musical world the first time, this most recent album takes us on a journey-like experience. Each song captures and welcomes you into a unique setting for those few minutes. It’s oddly satisfying. I honestly cannot recall any album having had this impression.

The first song, “Skull Session”, is brief minute and a half of gritty guitar riffs and ramblings of some Mexican chicas about how hot Dan is. It was as if that track took your hand and gave a miniature introduction to how this would all play out. And that’s where I see this album as more of an experience, then a smorgasbord of unrelated tracks.

In some instances, I’d find myself in the middle of a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, like with the beginning of “Janitor”. The beautiful transportation from scenery to scenery makes the listener feel involved, rather than a passerby in these 21 minutes of pure bliss. Tracks like “Virginia Slim” implement soothing vocal choruses, while “Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea” hits a little more groovy, and with calming a bluesy guitar that pleases the soul.

Overall, anyone willing to give The Arcs vs. The Inventors Vol. 1 a little attention is guaranteed to fall in love. And with a wide variety of musical tones throughout the 6 songs, it’ll assuredly satisfy.
