Who said festival season was over? You’re favorite energy drink and extreme sports company Red Bull sure as hell didn’t think so. As their side project Red Bull Sound Select made a massive presence in the 2015 music festival season, they most certainly didn’t stop there. Instead of hosting a festival of their own in one location over a weekend, they decided to take over the whole god damn city of Los Angeles and have some of the best musical acts in the world use it as their playground. In the early weeks of October, Red Bull announced “30 Days in LA”, a nightly concert series over dozens of venues throughout the month of November. The lineup included top acts like Flume, Chromeo, Sylvan Esso, Joey Bada$$, Kaytranada, Toro y Moi, and more who all played their own individual intimate shows.

This past Sunday, we had the pleasure of traveling to the Echoplex to see none other than Kaytranada on Red Bull’s 22nd day in LA. Having already seen this eclectic artist twice in festival atmospheres, I knew that this small, intimate, sold-out show in Los Angeles was going to be special for both Kaytranada and his audience.

If you haven’t heard the funk and groove that Kaytranada brings to the the table than i highly suggest you do so. His style is versatile, producing genres ranging from disco, house, trap, hip- hop, and everything in between. His set started off smooth, playing his classics like “Leave Me Alone” and his remix of “holdin’ on”. Slowly but surely turned up the entire club with his remix of Missy Elliot’s “I’m Really Really Hot” and did nothing but send out good vibes. After thanking the crowd for selling out his show, he surprised us all bringing out special guest Syd the Kyd from The Internet to sing their new hit song “Girl”. Her voice mesmerized the few hundred people in the venue and kept the groove alive and well. Kaytranada’s hour and a half set took us through a musical journey, playing different variations and tempos of music for all types of music lovers out there.

What was unique about Red Bull’s 30 Days in LA was that their logo took over the entire venue. From neon lights, to free Red Bull drinks, to prizes and merch, this company made sure attendees weren’t just going to any concert, but entering the Red Bull experience. Although I only got to experience one of the thirty nights in LA, Kaytranada was definitely one for the books. Be on the lookout for Red Bull Sound Select taking over a city near you, trust me, you won’t regret it.
