Last October, Hardwell’s philosophy, ‘If you dream it, you can do it’, was proven to be true when he was voted into the top spot in the 2013 Top 100 DJ’s poll. This year, he has done it again.  This Dutch DJ and producer has prevailed once again as 2014’s #1 DJ. “It feels incredible, you have no idea — what can I say?” Hardwell said in regards to his award . “As a little kid when I started off as a DJ, I couldn’t even dream about that. I think it’s the biggest achievement you can get in the whole DJ scene.”

Robbert van de Corput, also known as Hardwell, started DJing in Holland at a local club at the age of 14 after the club owner heard one of his unofficial remixes online.  Hardwell played there every week for six months until  the biggest radio station in Holland, Radio 538, called and offered him a record deal. By age 15 Hardwell was playing in gigs in all of Holland’s big cities from Amsterdam to Utrecht. These gigs put him in contact with DJ Chuckie, one of Holland’s biggest DJs, who mentored Hardwell until he was 17.  Hardwell  said “..[DJ Chuckie] taught me how to take the crowd on a journey, and that it was really important not to play only the hit records..”

And that is what he has done. Hardwell’s ability to “take the crowd on a journey” has led to wild success for the Dutch DJ.  Last year, Hardwell was the youngest DJ to ever claim the crown of the publicly-voted competition. This Saturday, Hardwell accepted the award at the Amsterdam Dance Event which was presented by legendary producer Daft Punk and collaborator Giorgio Moroder. This was the second consecutive time Hardwell beat out Armin Van Buuren, a five-time winner of the accolade.  Armin Van Buuren, Avicii, Tiesto, and David Guetta claimed the receding seats at the top of the poll.

Hardwell’s victory did not take the electronic music community by surprise. The progressive and electro-house specialist’s formidable presence in the industry was well earned. This October, Hardwell celebrated twelve straight months of hit records after finishing his global tour throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. The 18th marked another October victory as it was the one year anniversary of the release of his documentary, I AM HARDWELL, which tracks his journey to the top of the music charts.

In the past year, Hardwell has been at every major worldwide music event. He headlined at Tomorrowland as well as Ultra Music Festival in Miami and Europe; EDC Mexico City and Australia’s Future Music Festival; EDC NYC, EDC Las Vegas, and the Indy 500 Race Event; Mysteryland Netherlands, Dance Valley, and even played at his own Revealed Recordings arena at Creamfields.

Never resting on his success, Hardwell’s dedication to his fans is unrivalled. While touring, Hardwell simultaneously has maintained his radio show, Hardwell on Air, which broadcasts across 80 international stations weekly. Currently his show holds solid spots in the iTunes Top 10 podcasts in 45 countries. Hardwell also regularly hosts the exclusive question and answer series “Behind the Decks”, where he offers insight into his world as an international touring artist. Hardwell has been wildly active on his social media platforms which are all teaming with support and fans.  He has accumulated 6.9 million Facebook ‘likes’, 1.7 million Twitter followers, and 1.2  million SoundCloud  and Instagram followers. His label, Revealed Recordings, is now regarded as one of the most forward thinking influences in the EDM scene. It has an international presence between its releases, club takeovers, and festival arena hosts worldwide.

Despite Hardwell’s hectic year, he has continued to release an abundance of fresh music. He has collected a plethora of Beatport #1 hits including ‘Everybody Is In The Place’ and his remix of Coldplay’s ‘A Sky Full of Stars’. He also saw major success with his remix of Armin van Buuren’s song ‘Ping Pong’ and his edit of Deorro & J-Trick’s ‘Randbo’. Most recently he released his latest single, “Young Again.”

Hardwell is currently preparing for his North American Tour which kicks off on Halloween at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. He is scheduled to perform in San Francisco, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Miami before culminating at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden.
