It’s a week before Veld, where you’ll hear all kinds of house.  A good mixture of talent on the bill this year, but here, you won’t find the mau5.

Even with the absence of Toronto native Deadmau5 who has headlined the Veld Music Festival in its two previous runs, this year’s lineup brings an exciting mixture of big name and fresher-to-the-scene artists.  A projected 100,000 attendees will descend upon Downsview park August 2nd and 3rd to dance, jump, scream and shuffle to their favourite DJs and songs.  Ink Entertainment has stayed true to their two stage setup; 35 artists will take over the main stage and Bacardi Tent this year.  Here are ten must-see acts at Veld in no particular order:

1.  Nero

The legendary drum and bass duo Nero are due for an appearance after leaving us wanting more after their last Toronto show (at Identity Fest) in 2012.  Their recent release and success with “Satisfy” foreshadows a promising, hard-hitting set, and much anticipated album release later this year.

2.  Armin Van Buuren

The much-acclaimed king of trance, Armin Van Buuren is sure to bring a spectacle of feels as he closes out the main stage on day one of the festival.  With a two-hour set, Armin is expected to bring the crowd on a musical journey.  Will he bring out some of his Gaia side during that time?  We’ll have to wait and see.

3.  Oliver Heldens

This 19-year-old tech/deep house aficionado is making his debut appearance in Toronto at Veld, and is bound to bring the groove to the main stage.  Check out his Heldeep Mixtapes for a taste of what to expect.

4.  Knife Party

With their forthcoming album “Abandon Ship” coming at an unforeseen date, we can expect plenty of IDs (and maybe some Rob Swire vocals? see here) in addition to their heavy-hitting tracks, including the ever-so-played-and-remixed “Internet Friends” that forever resonates with everyone in the dance community.

5.  Adventure Club

No strangers to Veld, Adventure club’s set will bring an ear-pleasing mix of dubstep and melodies that could make the even the biggest bro, emotional.  Their magical selection of vocals and beats makes them (super)heroes in their own right.

6.  Milo & Otis

Bass production duo Milo & Otis were recently in Toronto aboard Skrillex’s Mothership Tour, and brought an energetic set featuring some heavy trap and moombahton.  Check out their collab with A-Trak as well as their notable remixes on their soundcloud.

7.  Overwerk

Hailing from London, Ontario, Overwerk is coming home for Veld, as part of his debut North American tour.  His unique electro sound is recognizable through his hits and remixes including “Exist” and “Daybreak.”

8.  Feed Me

As one of the first stops of his “Psychedelic Journey” Tour, Feed Me is definitely an act you don’t want to miss out on.  Anticipate an hour of carefully-crafted bangers and melodies that will definitely adhere to his tour vision.  We’re excited to see the production he brings along for the ride.

9.  Griz

The master of electro-soul will have you grooving hard to his jazzy tunes and signature sax sound. We’re hoping for an impromptu Grizmatik appearance, as fellow funkmaster Gramatik will be rocking the Bacardi tent on the same day.

10.  What So Not

What So Not, the highly-coveted lovechild of Aussies Flume and Emoh instead, are one of the most anticipated acts at Veld this year.  With hits like “Jaguar,” and “Tell Me” featuring RL Grime, expect anything and everything, from trap to their signature melodic breakdowns.
