Spotlight On: Thugli Noah KlineTuesday, July 8, 2014Bass MusicHip-HopTrap0 Comments38 views Today we’re gonna take the time to expose you, our faithful reader, to the rising trap duo, Thugli. Their Soundcloud, started only one year ago, has amassed nearly 23,000 followers dedicated to the pursuit of bass-heavy, thug beats. They’ve worked on remixes for songs from Drake’s “Worst Behavior” to Diplo & GTA’s “Boy Oh Boy,” and yet, managed to stay true to their badass, 808-ridden sound. They’ve received track support from industry legends like A-Trak, Flosstradamus, Zeds Dead, Benga, and recently had a mix featured on BBCs Radio1 Xtra’s Diplo and Friends. These guys know exactly how to make an impression, and it doesn’t just stop at production. This year, they managed to snag the Best Director award at the MuchMusic Video Awards for the accompanying film for “Run This” which you can watch below. In order to understand how they’ve come so far in such a seemingly short amount of time, you need to understand what their background consists of. Thugli is a project by both Pat Drastik and Tom Wrecks. Pat has about 15 years of DJing experience under his belt with accolades that include being a Redbull Thre3style and 4 time Canadian DMC Champion. His influences include A-Trak, Craze, Klever, and DJ AM (RIP) which is no surprise because they have all shared the stage at one point or another as masters of their scratchy craft. Tom Wrecks, Drastik’s co-pilot, shares a similar background. He, too, has about fifteen years under his belt and comes from a strong background of scratching and hip-hop influences. With such talent and drive, it’s no surprise Thugli has been so successful in the last year. We can’t wait to see what they’re going to do with their newfound spot in the limelight. We’ll be sitting down with the two to dig deeper into the past, present, and future of Thugli at Organic Music Festival in Southern Calfironia on July 26th. Stay tuned for our full-featured interview, and check out Thugli’s music below; we hope you get as hooked as we are.
