As the time draws near for the official release of Pretty Lights’ album “A Color Map of the Sun,” the man behind the moniker, Derek Vincent Smith has chosen to make the full album available on Soundcloud. Continuing on the same vein as what he his music has become known for, the album is layered with funky, glitchy hip-hop grooves and each sample has been made from scratch. Sitting at about an hour and ten minutes, you’ll find yourself getting lost in the album, as it’s both relaxing and invigorating. The production value you’ll find in this release is hard to come by and will be appreciated for years into the future.

It’s only been around four years now since Pretty Lights surfaced in the electronic music scene, but since that time a ball has started rolling that continues to pick up momentum. In many ways Pretty Lights’ music lays the groundwork for experimenting and just what can be done in  electronic music. As others follow suit, we will find a whole new wave of creative force in the genre. Give this album a shot, because it truly is a cut above the rest.

In Smith’s words, “This “album” is a multi-medium map of my mind and my self. It is personal and honest and I put everything into it. I have stayed on the path of being a completely independent musician and with the help of every supporter and friend, we have transformed a simple idea into a movement, a cultural beacon of light.”

If you feel so called to you can pre-order the album here. By purchasing the CD you will also get tons of extras. The official release date is July 2nd.
