Suffice to say if you are an avid listener of drum and bass you most likely have heard of ShockOne. Karl Thomas, the lone ranger of this powerhouse, began his start in Perth, Australia while in a metal band with a few other members, some of which were in Pendulum. He started experimenting with electronic music on the side and soon enough it consumed him. His real start was when his fellow friends from Pendulum dropped one of his tracks at a return show they had, then it was all up hill from there. His own unique style of d’n’b and dubstep contributed to his massive gain in followers. ShockOne EP was released in 2009 which launched him to the top of the charts with the help of the hit tunes Polygon and Adachigahara’s Theme. Since then, ShockOne has been a force to be reckoned with, carving his way through the charts with multiple EP’s and plenty of support from fellow dj’s such as Subfocus, Knife Party, Nero, and Delta Heavy. All this and more has lead to the hype that ShockOne’s soon to be released album, Universus, has on it’s shoulders.

ShockOne has yet to release a full LP which makes this all the more exciting. So far a few tracks off this album have been released as singles giving all a taste for what is to come. These tracks include Crucify Me, Relapse, and Chaos Theory. Crucify Me, which was released in 2011, features a vocal track by Phesta and holds a steady drum beat while using ShockOne’s notable dirty bass lines for an all out fantastic tune. Relapse, which was also released in 2011, is a slower yet grimy dubstep track while bringing in beautiful vocals by Sam Nafie. Tantrum Desire also capitalized on this by creating a remix that took dance floors by storm. Last but the farthest from least is ShockOne’s most recent 2012 release Chaos Theory. Undoubtably one of his best tracks to be created so far, this is a favorite of drum and bass and dubstep listeners alike. The unique style is apparent in what could only be called a cinematic, bass fueled adventure of epic proportions that will leave no man or woman motionless. The next single, Lazerbeam, is set to be released on April 14th. This fast paced, dance floor killer features Metrik and Kyza who boost the song to another level. Accompanied by this release will be impressive remixes by Au5 and Skism.

Based of these songs alone, Universus is already shaping up to be one of the top d’n’b/dubstep albums of 2013. The LP is set to release on April 29th so thankfully the wait isn’t too long though I’m sure devoted fans of ShockOne will whole-heartedly say the wait has been long enough.
